"Master" Family Preparedness Goals


3 Minutes:
Plan and practice fire escape routes.
Attach 3-minute kits to each family member's bed frame.
    Plan and practice What to do before, during, and after an earthquake or other
emergency situation.
    Secure all heavy and hanging objects (especially over beds) in a way that will prevent
them from falling during an earthquake.

    3 Hours:
Place operational flashlights or battery-operated fights in each room of home.
Determine the location of and how to shut off the main water valve.
 Attach required tool to water shut-off valve.
 Determine the location of the main gas valve.
 Learn how to shut off the main gas valve.
 Attach required tool to gas shut-off valve.
 Learn how to safely restart the furnace.
Install functional smoke alarms in the proper places to warn of fire.
Obtain a fire extinguisher and place in an accessible location near garage and kitchen.
Gather copies of important information and documents and store them in a fire-safe
           location ready for evacuation.                                                                    .
    Store duplicate keys and copies 9f important documents and Insurance papers fn a safe
        location outside of home.
,   Obtain a functional emergency radio.
Identify a local meeting place in the event of an evacuation.
3 Days:
Obtain sufficient food to last for 72-hours for each family member.
Obtain cooking supplies and fuel to use in the event of a loss of electricity and gas.
Obtain sufficient water storage for drinking, cooking and sanitary needs
(minimum 14gal per person).
Create 72-Hour evacuation kits (incl. food, water, clothing, shelter, first-aid, and meds).
Store 72 Hour evacuation kits in a way that is both accessible and portable.
Establish an out-of-state family contact
Place first-aid kit in an accessible place at home and in each car.
Obtain work gloves and tools for minor rescue and clean up.
Obtain an appropriate amount of cash in small bills to use during an emergency.
Determine and obtain emergency heat source.
3 Months:
Obtain at least a month's supply of any necessary medications for all family members.
Determine and obtain supplies for toilet facilities in an extended water shortage.
Determine and obtain supplies to filter or treat water from a questionable source.
Obtain enough food, clothing and fuel to last 3 months for each family member.
1 Year:
Obtain enough basic food storage, clothing, and fuel to last 1 full year for each person.
